Victory for UPAG in FESTARI 2012



Tronoh, 22nd September– Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Performing Arts Group (UPAG) brought back victory from “ Festari Tari 2012” after competing with four professional and amateur teams. The competition was organized by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Perak and Persatuan Permainan Tradisional Serantau (PEWARIS) at Auditorium Kompleks Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara Negeri Perak.

Besides that, UPAG also participated in an international dance competition organised by Cheonan Enchantment Committee supported by Ministry of Culture, Korea. With the theme of “Lets Dance in Cheonan”, UPAG managed to snag 3 award including Best dancer award, bronze for Street Parade Dance and top 5 in Folkdance category. Rampaian Melayu, Zapin and Joget are some of the dances they performed in Cheonan, Korea and UPAG has proved their ability by taking home the fourth place overall.

Interbeatz does UTP Proud At Super Dancers 2012


Kuantan, 4 August- CapitaMalls Asia, a leading shopping mall developer with clients all over Asia have organized a cross-country, cross-mall dancing competition, Super Dancers 2012, from mid-July to August 2012 held at seven of CapitaMalls-built malls in China, Malaysia and India.

The judges of the East Coast Mall ‘Super Dancers 2012’ include the founder of Street Nation Dance Studio and famous local street dance judge, Mr Bobby Tan, Artistic Director of Pertubuhan Kesenia Mahligai Budaya Kuantan, Pahang-Ms Joan Low, Artistic Director Choreographer of Pertubuhan Kesenian Mahligai Budaya Kuantan, Pahang-Mr Bonny Lee and East Coast Mall Centre Manager, Mr Chai Wen Yew.

Our very own UTP students have taken part in the qualifier at the East Coast Mall, Kuantan, Pahang, a two-day event (4th and 5th August) and have won the first stage in both categories. Tahyr Orazov from Turkmenistan was awarded 2nd runner up for the solo showcase  category, while our UTP breakdancing team Interbeatz, came up as the first runner.

Subsequently, UTP team, Interbeatz snagged the 1st Runner-Up award in the final show down against representative from other countries at the Grand Finals which was held at Gurney Plaze, Penang on the 25th of August. They were merely two points away from winning the title of CapitaMalls Asia Super Dancers 2012 “Champion of Champions”, which in the end went to the Penang Qualifier Champions. Nevertheless, we would like to congratulate them for their extraordinary performances and are proud to find such rare talents in UTP.
