UTP Sports Complex, 9th November 2014 –Held from 7th of November till 9th of November, nine universities and colleges gathered to compete 7 different sport activities at the MASISWA Sports Carnival (Northern) 2014.

The private educational institutions that participated includes :
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, 
UniKL MSI, 
Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman Kampar Campus, 
Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman Penang Campus, 
Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Alor Star, 
UTAR Kampar, 
UniKL MIMET, 
Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah and 
Kolej Professional Mara Seri Iskandar 

with the overall champion decided through the most collection of gold medals from the various categories. 

Delighted to announce that Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS crowned the overall champion with 7 golds, 6 silvers and 7 bronzes altogether, followed by UniKL MSI with 3 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes and the third placing goes to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman who managed to win 3 golds and 2 bronzes. Last but not least, HOT team would like to congratulate all the winners as well as other athletes for making MASISWA a remarkable sport event. Below are some pictures from selected games.

CONVOFAIR 2014

               CONVOFAIR 2014

Tronoh, 16 - 19th October 2014 - Our annual UTP CONVOFAIR had been held in Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in conjunction with the Convocation Ceremony which fell on the 19th October and the Sekretariat Rukun Negara.

The main purpose of having a CONVOFAIR is to attract the family members of UTP students to come and visit UTP as well as providing platform to conduct their personal family day to strengthen the bonds among each family member. This year, more than thousands of family had come to celebrate this annual event.

During these four days event, up to 60 booths were set up mainly food stalls, clothes stalls, PETRONAS merchandise stall, games and activities, and many more. There were variety of local food such as laksa, curry mee, ayam madu, burgers, fried rice, claypot mee, nasi lemak and so on. For games and activities, there were FIFA 15, The King of Guitar Hero, water ball, water boat, inflatable castle, wall climbing, water futsal and many more. Congratulations to Ahmad Syahiran who had won the title of “King of Fifa 15”. There were also exhibitions displaying antics vehicles.

At night, UTP students entertained the guests with performances. The performances include UTP Chinese Orchestra, Malay Dance, our most favourite dance - Bhangra Dance, Silat Melayu, International Dance, Rock Songs, Taekwondo, Caklempong, Gamelan and so on. The performances were splendid as proven from the big applaud by the audience after watching it.

On the last day of this event, a special talk, titled “Tentang Cinta” had been given by Ustaz Kazim Elias, who is a very famous religious icon in Perak. The talk was attended by many elderly and young people.

CONVOFAIR this year was a successful one and for that, we express gratitude to the committees of CONVOFAIR for the effort and commitment.

UTP's 14th CONVOCATION

UTP’s 14th Convocation Ceremony

Chancellor Hall, 19th October 2014 – “For the graduates, we wish you success in your future careers, knowing that your success will also be the University’s success,” words spoken by our very own Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, Chancellor of University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) during the 14th annual Convocation Ceremony in Chancellor Hall, UTP. Convocation is held annually, celebrating the hard work and excellence of its newly minted alumni.  This year, there were a total of 1278 students graduating from various programmes.

The ceremony was divided into two sessions; one in the morning officiated by our beloved Chancellor and one in the afternoon officiated by the Pro Chancellor of UTP.

The Gold Chancellor Award, awarded to the highest achieving undergraduate student was presented to Norazwan Wahid from Petroleum Engineering, while the Silver Chancellor Award was awarded to Vivian Lim Zher Yee from the Mechanical Engineering programme. As for Final Year Project Award, one of the grantees was Lok Chen Chuang from Chemical Engineering program.

The Best International Undergraduate Student Award was presented to Tran Duc Chung, a Vietnamese student from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program.

This year’s UTP Alumni Awards for Best Researcher— which were first introduced in the 12th Convocation Ceremony as a recognition for the contribution by postgraduate students for propelling the university to achieving the Research University status; went to Ali Samer Muhsan from Iraq who achieved his Doctorate of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering, and Norzaireen Mohd Azmee from Malaysia who completed her Masters of Science in Civil Engineering.

An Introduction to Effective Stress Management

Lecture Room 7, 22nd November- Studying in university is undeniably very stressful with assignments, tests and events abound. To combat this stress, the Academic and Career department of Student Representative Council Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (SRCUTP) (managed by Sharina binti Mohd Yusak, Business Information System 1st Year 2nd Semester) conducted a stress management exercise for students

The aim of this programme was to help students to develop techniques to manage stress effectively through the talk techniques presented by two stress management, Senior Lecturer Dr. Ahmad Shahrul Nizam bin Isha and Pn Haryanni binti Harun, both from the Management & Humanities department. 

Participants included both staff and students of UTP, with activities like ice breaking, dancing, and quizzes to judge their levels of depression and stress. The second session of the day dealt more directly with how to handle stresses as well as testimonials from the two speakers. The event ended with everyone participating in a dance before having their lunch together.

Pocket D, 15th October 2014 - Raise Your Game V1.0 is a biannual community project aimed at helping tertiary education students to train their leadership and business skills SEDEX pre-event.This year, ambassadors from Leaderonomics graced the programme as special guests.


 Raise Your Game V1.0, which was previously known as Youth Social Responsibility (YSR) involves the participation of students from primary schools and this time, foundation students from various universities in Perak. The students were split into two workshops provided by Leaderonomics on the topic of business and marketing.

The 34th installation of SEDEX will be held on the 8th and 9th of December.
