Chancellor Hall, 13th
June – UTP’s Chancellor Hall came to life with the blast of foot-
tapping music and eye-catching decorations during Red Sonata Fiesta 2015 (RSF).
The long-awaited event began with the arrival of Tuan Haji
Mohamed Noor Rosli bin Baharom, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni
ushered by lion dance which the audiences then applaud as they walked to their
seats. RSF is an annual event organised by UTP’s Chinese Orchestra in
collaboration with Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall to promote Chinese culture
in conjunction with the 1 Malaysia
concept to the varsity community and the public through various kinds of
cultural activities. Most surprisingly the
Chancellor Hall which could accommodate approximately 2500 people was fully
packed that day.
During the event, the audience
witnessed various performances ranging from singing, dancing to playing
instruments. The first performance guest was Wendy Woo, a 22-year-old who grew
up in Perak, Malaysia. The songs that she sang were‘Xi
Huan Ni’and ‘Luo Ye Gui Gen’.She was once recruited as one
of the apprentice of ‘The Voice of China’ and she won many titles in singing
competitions. The next performance guest was Professor
Cui Jun Zhi, she often considered to be the leading exponent of the Kong Hou, a
harp like instrument that died off during the Ming dynasty. Her performance had
impressed all the audience because Kong Hou is a very rare Chinese musical
instrument.
The event was also participated by
teachers and students from all over the states, ranging from primary school students
to university students to compete in the Chinese Orchestra Competition, Band
Orchestra Competition, Choir Competition and Dance Competition which held on
the 12th and 13th of June. The winners from each category
were given an opportunity to show their talent on the stage after the award giving
ceremony. The event came to an end at 12.00am where happiness can be seen on
the faces of the audience.
