Seri Iskandar, 4^th March – Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS’s Sports & Co-Curriculum Appreciation Night 2015 was held in D’Hotel nearby here with an objective to show an appreciation to everyone including UTP’s staffs and students who has excelled and contributed for the upbringing of the University’s name through Sports and Extra Curricular Activities for the year 2014.

            The event was honored by the presence of the YBhg Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim B Hashim, UTP Vice Chancellor, Tn. Hj. Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni and not forgetting the VIP of the night, YBhg Datuk Shahrul Zaman bin Yahya, State of Perak, Exco Of Youth, Sports, Communication And Multimedia, as well as UTP’s staffs and students. However, the biggest excitement of the night was the presence of a special guest, Mr. Awi Rafael, a multitalented singer, songwriter, musicians who hails from Singapore.

            The night started off at about 7.30 pm where the guests comprising of students and staffs gathered at the ballroom area of D’Hotel before the arrival of the VIP’s shortly after. Not long after that, the National Anthem was played as well as both the PETRONAS and University songs were played.

            What follows next was the highlight of the night where each club and team was presented with Appreciation Certificates for their achievement throughout the year of 2014. It was truly an exciting moment as claps and cheers echoed the ballroom of the venue. The guests of the event were then treated to a buffet, which comprised of some mouthwatering dishes. Some performances including UTP’s Bhangra Group, Mozambique Dance Group and UTP’s Performing Arts Group also took place on the stage during the dinner.

After that, the multitalented singer, songwriter, Awi Rafael whose hits includes “Kalau Aku Kaya” and “Pulanglah”, gave a captivating sharing and motivational session to the guests. The Singaporean born performer then wowed the crowd with a mesmerizing performance of his hit, “Kalau Aku Kaya”.

Next, a speech was presented by YBhg Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim B Hashim, UTP Vice Chancellor before YBhg Datuk Shahrul Zaman bin Yahya, State of Perak, Exco Of Youth, Sports, Communication And Multimedia. Our Vice Chancellor added that students and staffs must continue to build the impressive legacy achieved with the previous accomplishment to uphold the name of UTP not only nationally but globally as well.    

  

However, the most exciting moment of the night followed through next with the presentation of the Appreciation Awards. Some of the awards include the International Achievement Awards, Best Club, Best Sports Team Male & Female, Best Sportswoman and Men. The winners include, UTP AIESEC who bagged the Best Club/Society Award, UTP Nasyid Group who bagged the Best Co-Curricular (Performing Arts) Award and also UTP Netball Team who bagged the Best Sports Team (Woman) just to name a few.

            Lastly, the night came to an end after all the Presentations of Awards were given out. None of the objectives of the night would be achieve without the hard work and dedication of the Committees of the Event itself and as well as the presence of the energized crowd throughout the night.
