UTP,
13th March – UTP’s Chancellor Hall came to life with the blast of foot tapping music and eye catching decoration during the International Culture Night (ICN) 2015 with the arrival Tuan Haji Noor Rosli bin Baharom, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Students Affairs and Alumni, ushered by two Sikh drummers with all the audience applauding as they walked to their seats. ICN is an annual
event organized by UTP to promote international culture to students of UTP. Most
surprisingly was the Chancellor Hall of UTP which could accommodate
approximately 2500 people was fully packed that day.
During the event, many performances
were performed ranging from singing, dancing to playing instruments. The first
dance was performed by students from Myanmar. The event came to a climax when
the Indonesian students played an instrument originated from Indonesia called
‘Gamelan’. The performance was conducted by a lecturer of UTP. Besides, there
were also performances from many other countries such as Bangladesh, Sudan,
India, Yemen, Pakistan, Mozambique and etc. This year, the audience were lucky
because they got the opportunity to see the famous Malaysian singer, Awi Rafeael
performing live in UTP Chancellor Hall.
The event was also participated by
teachers and students from SMK Adela and SMK Tanjung Datuk from Pengerang,
Johor. According to a teacher named Pn.Hartini bt Mohd Hidzir from SMK Adela,
she said that she learnt about the diversity of culture from the performances. The
event was also participated by PETRONAS staff from Stakeholders Management
Pengerang Integrated Complex. According to Mohammed Rizzuan, one of the
PETRONAS staffs, he used to study in Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) and he
said that they have the same international cultural night like UTP. However,
unlike his university there is no restriction for female students in UTP to unleash their talent during the event.
